“All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Idolatry. Harlotry. Rebellion. Abandonment.
No other book speaks so plainly about God’s warning of judgment in response to wickedness as does the book of Hosea. As I first read this book I found myself not understanding, thinking it was strange, and not desiring to continue my study of it.
Then I began to seek the Lord regarding why it was in His holy Word and what He would have me to see through it. I was humbled – to the point of tears – as I read it again and began to study this portion of Scripture.
See, adultery and harlotry seems so despicable to me. Yet, I am such a one. In my heart I have turned to gods of pleasure rather than the One who has sacrificed everything and loves my soul. Finally, when I lay in misery, I return to my God. “…then she will say, ‘I will go back to my first husband, for it was better for me then than now! For she does not know that it was I who gave her grain, and new wine and the oil…” Hosea 2:7-8
God provides for me even when I brush Him aside or resist conviction. Finally, I remember that it was “better for me” when my heart was turned towards Him. I return out of a selfish love – a love that loves only because He first loved me.
Thank you, my Almighty God
