Thoughts on Thought

My mind tends to wander to everywhere, anywhere, and no where in particular. I was reading Charles Spurgeon’s lecture titled, “Thoughts on Thought.” There were valid warnings contained in this literature regarding taking every thought captive to the obedience of Jesus Christ. It becomes a fine line to walk when my thoughts are not inherently wicked – just not God-honoring and productive . . . they often distract me from a prayerful state of being and take my focus off of Christ onto things that just do not matter. They in themselves are not sinful but they cause me to sin as my eyes drift from my LORD onto a temporal world and miniscule goals.

For this reason, I have begun listening to Scripture as I work on projects that are “mindless.” The gospels are my current focus. It has been a while since I have read through the gospels and I am finding myself falling in love with the person of Jesus Christ in a new way. There are several accounts of healings that were performed by Jesus. Considering the fact that I have been sorting through some uncharacteristic health issues, it was comforting to refocus and realize that this is exactly where God wants me. He has complete reign over my life. I can praise Him for His plan . . . even when that plan includes physical pain and frustration.

Those are my scattered thoughts for tonight . . .
