Jesus, I am resting

I'll sure that ya'll know the Hymn, "Jesus I am resting, resting." I've found myself singing it repeatedly the last couple of days. It so accurately describes a believer's relationship with the Lord.

Here it is:

"Jesus, I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For by Thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.

Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,
I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love, so pure, so changeless,
Satisfies my heart;
Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies its every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings:
Thine is love indeed."

The concept in that second verse really convicted me last night. I stopped to consider everything that I look to for satisfaction instead of God alone. My relationship with friends, my relationship with my brother, my plans for visiting BJ and my studies that I've always had the grace to do well in. Ah, but He is all that I need. When I look to these circumstances for satisfaction I am guilty of making these things "idols" and thus breaking the Second Commandment. His grace is sufficient for everything set before me. Even Chemistry, which I don't understand. Even my brother leaving for college. Even tensions in struggles in relationships with my friends. Everything! Nothing can steal the joy in having a relationship with God and knowing that my name is written in the Book of Life.

Welp, I'm off to finish up some homework for tomorrow. Press on, be transparent, think broadly about narrow truths and live for the audience of One. God bless ya'll.

wow, you're so right. Jesus is all we need in everything!! Bethany Dillon's song "All I Need" says, "You are all I need when I'm surrounded. You are all I need when I'm by myself." it doens't matter who we're with, what we're doing, where we are- Jesus is ALL we need.
